Metal guitar legend Jeff LoomisForging Ahead On A77X Monitors

On deciding to upgrade his studio monitors, metal guitarist Jeff Loomis noticed his friend Robert Lang (Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews) had acquired a pair of ADAM Audio speakers. “His trust alone made me want to try them,” Jeff remembers in a recent interview with ADAM Audio. “With the help of ADAM Audio my personal mixes have already improved drastically.”
Jeff Loomis, rising to prominence with the legendary Seattle-based metal band Nevermore, has been one of the metal scene’s most revered guitarists for many years. Two acclaimed solo albums were released in 2008 and 2012. After Nevermore disbanded, he joined Swedish melodic metal band Arch Enemy In November 2014, where Jeff quickly became a permanent fixture in the band’s ongoing success.
Although primarily a guitarist, Jeff developed an interest in recording as a teenager. Bored of practicing endless rock scales, he bought a 4-track recorder to help remember riffs and song ideas. It was the beginning of a life-long interest in recording and studio technology. Jeff has since spent a lot of time in studios and hanging around with engineers and producers. In 2008, he began to turn the hobbyist recording set-up in his basement into a full-blown studio space for writing songs and tracking guitars in excellent quality.
Jeff realized early on that the quality of his monitors was a crucial part of the equation. He enlisted the help of producer Neil Quernon (Queensryche, Hall & Oats) to engineer his first solo album in his nascent studio. “That’s when I really realized I wanted to get more serious about it, and started purchasing bigger and better equipment,” he recalls. “If you’re not hearing back your compositions accurately, you’re going to be in trouble.”
“I’m looking forward to writing and recording my next solo album with ADAM Audio being the new essential and fundamental part of my studio set up!”
ADAM Audio’s award-winning A77X studio monitor proved the ideal solution. Its outstanding stereo imaging and wide “sweet spot” gave Jeff not only pinpoint accuracy but an inspiring sound that would feel comfortable during long writing sessions. “I need monitors that are going to inspire me sound-wise for the music I write,” Jeff states. With two Jeff Loomis solo albums already released, he’s currently preparing for his third outing. “I’m looking forward to writing and recording my next solo album with ADAM Audio being the new essential and fundamental part of my studio set up!”
