Jon Craig's Courthouse Studiogoes Dolby Atmos
ADAM UsersAward-winning producer and engineer Jon Craig on mixing in Atmos with ADAM Audio’s S3X-H reference monitors.
As the founder and owner of the Courthouse Studio, Jon Craig operates as the in-house producer and engineer. Starting off as a DJ and producing club music, it was only a matter of time before he went off and set up his own studio.
Founded in April 2016 by the producer and mix engineer, The Courthouse Studio recently moved location in Manchester, UK, to better accommodate its growing client roster. As a recording, production, writing, mixing and mastering studio, it is still deeply rooted in the analog domain and offers a vast array of outboard and custom made equipment.
The studio has been set up to cater for all types of electronic music, and now features a newly installed Dolby Atmos setup, with a system that extensively relies on ADAM Audio technology.
“After lots of research into Atmos, immersive and spatial Audio, I started to see that this was soon going to be the standard listening format,” Jon explains about his new system. “I worked closely with Dolby to design the Atmos system using ADAM monitors, and a Trinnov D-MON 12 Optimizer. It truly does sound amazing.”
The studio uses three ADAM Audio S3X-H midfield monitors flush mounted in the front wall, two ADAM Audio A7Xs on the sides, and two more A7Xs hanging from the ceiling on speaker mounts.
“I’ve worked with the S3X-H monitors for 13 years, and I know them inside out through my Trinnov unit,” he states about his use of speakers. “I wanted to stay with the same generation of monitors for the overheads and sides, so I opted to go with the AX Series to keep a good tonal balance around the room.”
Remaining true to his background in electronic music, Jon is currently working on the Hacienda Classical, an homage to Manchester’s historical nightclub. With the new Atmos system, the producer just finished mixing and mastering several projects, including the Devlin remix of “London City”, Rob Made’s take on the classic Amine Edge “Lost” record, amongst many others.
“When customers come in, they hear all the nuances through the ADAMs they couldn’t hear at their own place, and it makes them look at how to prevent any possible issues next time,” he says about the quality of the studio’s audio pefections.
